Why I think Americans, Especially Floridians and Retired Adults Should Buy Electric Cars Now, Including the Subaru Solterra 2023 and 2024

Yes, It’s worth it to Save the Planet! “Happy” Earth Week, sort of?… I want to be happy, but, you know… We aren’t buying the EV Cars that are available fast enough, and we need to think differently about what these vehicles DO offer us, rather than what they don’t. Like a war-time, call-to-action, more people need to look at these cars in a much different way.

Here is my list for the benefits of buying ANY EV on the market right now:

  1. My best argument for any EV right now is that it’s desperately NEEDED.
***Your purchase is needed to save the planet, the oceans, and cool the earth enough for our kids and grandkids to have any kind of enjoyable life outdoors.*** We know we must end fossil fuels as soon as possible.
  2. Instead of seeing that a car offers “only 228 miles” before needing to be charged, people need to think about that a lot differently. How often do any of us really drive for 2 to 3 hours with out stopping for a bathroom break, a coffee, or to let the kids or dog get out and run around? If the US goverment installs 10 to 20 charging stations at all gas stations, Starbucks, McDonalds… in America, people traveling any distance at all will still stop there to charge, use the restroom, and buy food and beverages. Plug in, go get a coffee, use the bathroom, buy groceries, etc. It’s really not hard to do if you just give it a try. *We need you to try.*
  3. Most people can charge an EV car overnight, at their home, work or final destination. You may not ever need to charge a car anywhere else if you make short trips anyway.
  4. EVs do not need to be 100% charged to work. You can stop and charge a car at a gas station or rest stop only the amount of time you are there if you don’t want to wait for it to charge all the way.
  5. Florida has a lot of retired adults, who mostly make short trips.
  6. Florida is “hot”. It’s now Spring, and in the 80’s-90's most days already. We are entering the 4th Global Coral Bleaching event worldwide. Yes, continuing to drive cars for short trips is still polluting the atmosphere and raising the temperature, even if you think your fossil fuel car is not the one contributing to the problem; it’s a collective problem.
  7. Kids today will look at you with joy and delight, that you are actually trying and embracing the new technology. There is nothing worse than someone who won’t budge on their views and makes the rest of the people who have infact been working so very hard to clean up the mess collectively by everyone who has used fossil fuel cars in the last fifty years… You get the picture. Kid’s today, and their parents, are full of anger, stress and pain from what is going on with climate change.
  8. Ocean, animal and nature non-profits are all pained with the critical loss of habits and bio-diversity to fires, flooding, ocean acidification, ocean temperature rise, plastic and waste pollution and they are constantly fundraising to protect everthing from trees and coral reefs to whales, manatees, turtles, bees and butterflies. “Kids” in their twenties have been cleaning up beaches, ocean debris and beach plastic since they were in Kindergarten. In hotter climates, kids and adults are forced inside and can’t even ride a bike or play outside when it’s too hot.
  9. The Covid Pandemic proved we have the solution! We saw instant improvement in the atmosphere when no one was driving fossil fuel cars on the roads. We know this works. We know quitting fossil fuels worked then, and we need to do that now, faster. A lot faster.
  10. The anger I have, as a parent of 22 year old twins, is big. I have seen families lose homes to fires in California. We were wearing N92 masks and forced inside from fires years before the pandemic. We know this isn’t going to change with out behavior changes by all humans that end the use of fossil fuels.
  11. Is it really that hard to upgrade to new technology if you KNOW IT WILL SAVE LIVES AND SPECIES? I mean, honestly… If you can afford to do it, you MUST do this now. It’s not like, “Oh, we can wait 15 years”… No, we can not wait any more. If you can afford to upgrade with the government incentives and trading in your old car, it’s time. There is no question, you should not be “waiting for the next, better car that will go farther on a single charge”, because, not everyone actually needs that!
Be considerate! Don’t be greedy. Buy or lease what you actually do use, not what you think you need for that “once in a blue moon, 1,400 mile trip” that you don’t think you can wait longer than 5 minutes for your car to charge. You can do it. You can embrace clean and safer technologies to save us all! Please, try it.
  12. Now through April 27th, Subaru is giving you a $50. Visa Rewards Card just for test driving a Subaru Solterra. I test drove the Subaru Solterra 2024 with my father today. It has a smooth ride, all the bells and whistles of new driving technology built in, a universal charger, and is loaded with safety features. It also has All Wheel Drive, a feature most previous Subaru owners love and rely on. It’s a collaborative design with Toyota, who have been making hybrids and EV’s for a long time. My Dad’s biggest argument against it is still the concept of “slow charging”. But think of it this way, we are upset that you are “slowly changing” and still denying that we need you to embrace the new technology, even if you think it’s not what you need. “WE”, the younger generations, need you, the older generations, to TRY HARDER. You are out golfing, and reading and shopping and doing things a lot of us younger people can’t enjoy in the same capacity you can. You are the deniers. You are not trying “for us”. You are actively refusing the inventions and technology and hurting us, your kids and grandkids because you won’t “try for us”.
  13. I love people who love the planet, oceans and want to save us in any way possible, and are constantly dreaming up better solutions. Those are my people! If you aren’t on board with TRYING, thinking, making, creating, doing something BIG to help the kids have a better future, then… you know, it hurts. It hurts, A LOT, and truly, I can’t love you in the same way I used to. Times have changed, and we must commit to being the humans we need to protect the planet and kids, NOW… not ignoring the rising temperatures and saying, “Oh, the kids will fix it”. No, we ALL are part of the problem. If you have enough money to use the newer technologies, you absolutely need to be trying and not denying.
  14. Please, invest in cooling technologies, not fossil fuels. It absolutely does make a huge difference. Your kids and grandkids will thank you, not be harboring a festering and quickly growing anger that you are not trying. Thank you.
